Hi!
We’re Jacq and Caleb; newly aspiring runners for a cause! Like every other person, we each have a story. While athletics are something we value, long distance running isn’t our forte. We both played collegiate soccer so most of our running has been done with a ball at our feet and a goal ahead (quite literally 😉). That being said, our sights are set on a new goal, one where there is a lot more at stake than just losing a game – we’re running for the LIVES of young women. We’re running for freedom.
Did you know that there are more people enslaved today than at any other point in history? Human trafficking is happening all around us, even right here in Roanoke, Virginia. We were shocked to learn that Virginia ranks 6th in the nation for the number of federal sex trafficking cases. Half of these victims are children under the age of 18. Yet, despite this, there are currently no shelters in Virginia that specifically assist survivors under the age of 18. As a result, many girls that are recovered from sex trafficking are detained at juvenile detention centers like criminals because they have no other place to go.
Street Ransom is a local organization attempting to fill this void. They have purchased and renovated an amazing property to become an emergency shelter, but they lack the operating funds necessary to launch the shelter.
Will you consider joining us as we fundraise and run for freedom of these oppressed girls? Our goal is to raise $2000. Your donations will go directly to getting Street Ransom's shelter off the ground. The funds will also support Freedom 4/24 and their partners internationally, helping girls in countries like India and Uganda. We’ve decided to take one small step and fight alongside the organizations that are giving these girls a renewed faith, future and FREEDOM and we hope you join us!
