$1,000 towards $1,000

Hello! My name is Hannah Broughton, and I am a student at Christopher Newport University. My major is American Studies, and I have a passion for studying history, law, and justice. Throughout my time at college, I have studied the horrific injustices that have occurred in societies over the ages. It is easy to judge these historical figures for sitting back and not doing anything to stop the horrible evils happening around them. But, equally as horrendous crimes are occurring all over the world today, even in the United States. One issue in particular really has been laid on my heart, which is to eradicate human trafficking.

In order to help with this cause, I am running the Hokie Half Marathon on September 23, and I have set a goal to raise $1,000 for victims and survivors of human trafficking. The funds I raise will go towards Freedom 4/24 and their international partners working on the frontlines with victims and survivors of human trafficking in India, Uganda, and Thailand. The funds will also support Street Ransom, a non-profit providing direct services to trafficking and sexual exploitation victims in Roanoke.
